Abstract

This study aims to analyze the forms and functions of interjections in Arabic and Indonesian, as well as their implications for mahārah al-kalām instruction. The study employs a qualitative descriptive approach using a content analysis method. The data consist of utterances containing interjections found in the Arabic-language YouTube video قصة حياة الإمام البخاري and the film Nussa, collected through listening and note-taking techniques. The analysis was conducted through the stages of identification, classification, contrastive analysis, and interpretation of interjectional utterances. The findings show that Arabic and Indonesian interjections share similarities in expressive functions, including admiration, gratitude, surprise, invitation, sadness, and annoyance, but differ in the variety of forms and their functional uses. These findings indicate that interjections can be utilized as authentic materials to enhance communicative competence in mahārah al-kalām in Arabic language learning.
