Integrasi Kearifan Lokal dalam Kurikulum Kebahasaan untuk Penguatan Identitas Budaya Siswa

Abstract

The integration of local wisdom into language learning is important in strengthening students’ cultural identity amid the influence of globalization. This study aims to describe the implementation of local wisdom in language curricula and its role in reinforcing the cultural identity of junior high school students in Madiun City. The research employed a qualitative descriptive method involving language teachers and students from several junior high schools. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation. The findings show that local cultural elements, such as folklore, traditional expressions, regional values, and local history, were integrated into language learning activities including reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Teachers applied contextual learning strategies that connected students’ linguistic skills with their cultural experiences and social environment. The integration of local wisdom increased students’ participation and learning motivation while also fostering awareness, appreciation, and pride toward local culture. However, challenges were found in the limited availability of local culture-based learning materials and the lack of teacher training related to culturally responsive learning. The study implies that integrating local wisdom into language curricula can support both language competence and cultural preservation among students. Therefore, schools and educators need to develop innovative and culture-based learning practices to strengthen students’ cultural identity in the modern educational environment.
