Abstract

This study explores the dialectical integration of charismatic and transformational leadership within the modern Islamic educational ecosystem, specifically focusing on Pondok Pesantren Terpadu (PPT) Serambi Makkah in Muaro Jambi. Utilizing a qualitative case study approach, the research investigates how traditional spiritual authority synergizes with modern managerial innovation to navigate the complex dynamics of a pluralistic transmigration society. The findings reveal that charismatic leadership, anchored in the spiritual legitimacy and moral exemplarity of the Kiai, fosters absolute loyalty and sociological stability through cultural manifestations like sami’na wa atha’na. Concurrently, transformational leadership acts as a strategic catalyst for organizational adaptation, driving intellectual stimulation, human resource empowerment, and curriculum modernization. Ultimately, this hybrid leadership model enables the pesantren to preserve its sacred traditional roots while proactively embracing progressive educational advancements. This synthesis provides a robust, sustainable framework for maintaining institutional relevance and academic excellence in contemporary multicultural environments.
